Hi folks...
Today, as
i've got no other engagement, decided to write about the story of an aborted foetus..."hovercraft", the discarded golden jubilee project of my class,
Mech B 2006-10 batch of Govt.
Engg College
Thrissur...
it all started in July...On a tirsome afternoon while we were sleeping in the class listening to the very interesting lecture of ECRamakrishnan sir,
KKRamachandran sir,one of the senior staff members, came to the class to announce about the golden jubilee celebs of our college...he said tat the college expects at least one project from our class...highly delighted n finding an opportunity to make our dreams come true, me n my friends started discussion about innovative n creative projects that could revolutionize the present scenario...when queried, he said tat a huge amount of 50thousand bucks are reserved for each n every class...
then started the days of discussions..dreams..reading...surfing...this tat n everything...last came up with 3 main projects...
1]tender coconut cutter
2]coconut peeler n cutter
3]Hovercraft
the idea of 1st project came after going through a monthly[thanks to our great library...]...n the 2
nd project came on the day of our 1&2's last exam...we guys wanted to do something tats useful for the public n the generations to come...nevertheless the 1st idea was neglected cos it was too simple n the 2
nd because we were not technically enough advanced for tat to happen...the 5
seater hovercraft's idea came last but we decided to go with it neglecting the other two mainly because it was something awesome, once made we will get public attention n also aid while campus recruitment n many more advantages that even included roaming around with gal friend...
the data collection n also the information digging started simultaneously from
everyone's part independently but in an organised way...after getting enough primary data, the next mission was to select an eminent faculty from our college who can guide us to success n we approached
CPSunilkumar sir, Asst prof...we went to his home, went here n there for getting details of engine n other parts...our phone balance dropped drastically but the area exposed inside the petrol tank grew n grew n grew...
in the name of this project,
vinod[one of my best friends] n i were called to his tuition centre...there he offered us the post of probationary tuition teacher, well we decided to work for a month n then to decide about continuing further...we people had to take classes for small children 6
th to 9
th standard n that too state syllabus...
meanwhile at college, the discussions about hovercraft got heated up...professors came to know about it, they started to collect all sorts of possible information n also tried to get sponsorship from alumni as the estimated cost was about 1.05lakhs...every knocked door was bolted tight from inside n i guess those were nicely insulated too...after 2 weeks time, professor
Krishnakumar sir called us n said"
i've check different sites n also did contact many of my friends...they prescribed some sites n
i've checked those...these are all factory made parts which we only need to assemble...and that will be pretty much expensive...so why can't you people make a small desktop model[showing a desk]" we defended to the best but whatever we did never succeeded because they couldnt even think about a funding greater than 5 thousand bucks..."well what you guys say can be understood..when i was studying in
IIT, my seniors made one....you people can use an exhaust fan to act for the lifting purpose.."he continued...we left the scene saying tat we will put our decision after discussing with classmates...n when discussed, astonishingly, we all came to the same answer..."ask everyone to f**k off, lets abort this project..."...thats the unity of Royal Mex...no matter what u say
Mex Rule the World !!!
the golden castles made by 51 students just disappeared in thin air...romantic safari with gal friend...media coverage...fame...money...everything...many of us said about this to the near n dear...promised
galfriends the 1st drive, n many more things[really interesting bit of imagination]...the college profs decision was expected but not this slow....initially they gave us a hope but played role towards the end...the money we lost doesn't matter...time we lost can also be forgotten....but the dreams we had !!! can never forget it...
our mindset after the denial of project was like that of a mom who lost her very 1st child during pregnancy itself...i've used aswathy's[my good friend n cousin] poem to portray our hearts...[ofcourse its without her permission hope she will forgive me...wouldnt you??]
Navaneeth, my very best friend perked me after a couple of days n i made a small model of hovercraft keeping the aim "getting hover means success"...te whole work was accomplished within a week...thanks to you buddy because you made me understand
" it is always better to light a candle than curse the darkness..."...the video is that of that small model which i've made out of household junks...everything except battery n glue are junks !!!
